Help & FAQ

Eating well is easy to say, hard to do. Here’s how the Bolus programme makes it happen, and what to expect.

What Bolus is

A healthy eating programme for people with type 2, pre-diabetes or type 1 diabetes. Most people don’t fail at healthy eating because they lack advice. They fail because the healthier option isn’t ready, bought or obvious when real life hits. Bolus does that part for you: it sets up a week of real meals, keeps the right food in the house, and keeps an easier option ready for the nights that fall apart. There’s no calorie counting and no food logging.

It’s closer in spirit to a coached programme than to a meal-planner or tracker app: a healthy eating coach is built in, so you get real support any hour, no appointment and no waiting list, without a food diary.

What you get

  • A healthy eating coach you can message any hour, with no appointment and no judgement
  • A full week planned out, breakfasts, lunches and dinners, so you’re not deciding meal by meal
  • Support to buy the right food for the week from your usual UK supermarket, grouped by aisle so it’s quick
  • Quick swaps for busy or tired nights, using what you already have, without unravelling the week
  • A short weekly review that shapes the next week around the meals you cooked and would repeat

How the programme works

Bolus runs as a simple weekly loop. The longer you use it, the more it fits your life.

1. You get a week

Breakfasts, lunches and dinners, already decided around how you like to eat. Skim it, mark anything you already know (eating out Thursday, swap Tuesday for something faster), and the week is set up. Takes about a minute.

2. You shop and eat

Bolus supports you to buy the right food for the week from your usual UK supermarket, grouped by aisle, so it’s all in the house. During the week you cook what’s there and mark each meal as you go: cooked, swapped, ate out.

3. When a night falls apart

Running late, too tired, or eating out? Swap tonight’s meal for something faster from what you already have, or skip it. The rest of the week still holds. No replanning, no guilt.

4. The next week fits you better

A short weekly review asks how the meals went. From it, Bolus builds your next week, favouring the meals you actually cooked and would repeat, and quietly dropping the ones that didn’t fit. Week by week, the plan gets more yours.

Your coach, any hour

Bolus has a healthy eating coach built in that you can message any time, with no appointment and no judgement. Ask what to make when you’re shattered and haven’t shopped, how to get back on track after a weekend off, or whether a swap still works, and you get a straight, kind answer in seconds. The coach stays on food and lifestyle; it doesn’t give medical advice or insulin dosing guidance, and steers clinical questions back to your care team.

The food

“Eat healthier” is not a plan. Bolus gives you concrete, filling meals built around vegetables, beans and pulses, higher-fibre carbs where they fit, fish, eggs, meat, yoghurt and olive oil. This isn’t “diabetic food”, a low-fat diet or shakes and bars; it’s everyday healthy cooking. You tell Bolus how you like to eat (more vegetarian, more fish, more meat, or a mix) and the week is built around that. Dinner portions can scale for other adults in the house, so you’re cooking one meal, not two, with ingredients from your supermarket and methods that fit the time you have.

How it learns

Once a week, a short review asks what you cooked, what you swapped and what you’d make again. That’s the only check-in. From it, the next week reshapes itself around the food that fits your life: meals you love come back more often, the ones that weren’t for you fade out. Small changes that stick, so a good week becomes a habit instead of a one-off.

Built for real life

Bolus isn’t a meal planner and it isn’t a tracker. It’s a programme for getting food handled. Minimal input: no calorie counting, no macro logging, no photographing plates, no diary; once a week you tell Bolus how meals went and what you’d cook again. Alongside your care team: Bolus is a healthy eating programme. It doesn’t dose insulin, count carbs for dosing, or replace your diabetes team, and your data is never sold to advertisers.

Frequently asked questions

Who is Bolus for?
Adults with type 2, pre-diabetes or type 1 diabetes who broadly know they should eat better but struggle to make it happen week after week, and want the food handled with less mental load.
Is Bolus a meal planner or a calorie tracker?
No. It’s a healthy eating programme. There’s no calorie counting and no food logging. It sets up your week of real meals, matches the shopping, keeps easier options ready for hard nights, and learns from what you actually cooked.
What is the Bolus coach?
A healthy eating coach built into the app that you can message any hour, with no appointment and no judgement. Ask what to make when you’re tired and haven’t shopped, how to get back on track after a slip, or whether a swap works. It’s for food and lifestyle support only, and doesn’t give medical advice or insulin dosing guidance.
What do I actually get each week?
A planned week of breakfasts, lunches and dinners, support to buy the right food from your usual UK supermarket, a coach you can ask anything, and a simple rhythm of cook → mark → review that shapes the next week around the meals you’d repeat.
Does Bolus replace my diabetes team?
No. Bolus doesn’t dose insulin, count carbs for dosing, or provide medical care. It’s a healthy eating programme that sits alongside your usual clinical support.
Is this a special diabetic diet?
No. Meals are everyday healthy cooking built around the principles behind UK healthy eating guidance. You set how you like to eat, including lower-carb-style if that suits you.
Do you deliver food?
No. Bolus supports you to buy the right ingredients from your usual UK supermarket; you shop and check out with the store yourself.
Can I connect a CGM?
Optionally, yes. If you use FreeStyle Libre or Dexcom, you can connect it to see your own glucose around logged meals, for personal review. It’s display-only: Bolus doesn’t use it to score or choose meals, and it never provides medical or dosing advice.
How do I get it, and is there Android?
Bolus is on iPhone via TestFlight; head to the download page to install. Android isn’t ready yet, but you can join the waitlist on that same page.
What if I want my data deleted?
You can request deletion of your data; email [email protected]. See the Privacy Policy for full detail.
